You are What You Eat, so Don't Eat Garbage!
If you don't know how to buy food, it will cost you "a lot of" money, not only in what you spend on food that could give your family cancer or health problems, but in medication and treatment that will be costly, prolonged and painful. The following are some guidelines to consider when buying food:
1- Most cheap and Non-organic meat is produced in large "industrial" farms that raise tons of animals with cruelty, in confined spaces, feed them hormones (to increase their size) and antibiotics (to make them disease-resistant). See the following on how disgusting industrial farm conditions are: Sustainable Food, Crimes Against Nature and Pew Research on Industrial Farms.
2- Try to buy meat and dairy and eggs that are "Organic" and produced by Co-ops (Taavoni)of small organic farms.
3- Buying Organic also helps you avoid chemical preservatives, artificial additives, hormones, pesticides and GMOs (genetically Modified Organisms). All of these are linked to all forms of cancer, obesity, neurological disorders, mood swings, learning disabilities, and a variety of other health problems in adults and children (see Oragnic.org). Remember "Natural" food can still contain ingredients that have been grown with pesticides or are genetically modified, so "Natural" doesn't mean Organic.
4- Pork is most prone to diseases. It is not only religions like Judaism and Islam that list pork as prohibited food. Today many doctors and nutritionists also strongly discourage pork. Excessive consumption of Red meat (beef, veal, etc.) is also associated with many health problems.
5- Use plenty of "Organic" fruit and vegetables, flax seed and other sources of Omega-3, like Salmon (Wild, caught in oceans, Alaska, etc.). Avoid "high-glycemic" carbohydrates like white, refined flour bread (very fluffy and light and cheap ones), cookies and rice, that easily convert to glucose in your blood and could cause insulin-resistance, diabetes and weight gain. Use whole-grain, whole-wheat Organic flour and brown rice.
6- Avoid Coffee (not easy!) and soda, and minimize tea (white and green tea have better antioxidant capacity than black tea). '
