Iranian MP acknowledges problems with nuclear and oil/gas exploration programs
Dr. Hamidreza Katoozian, the Head of Iranian Parliament's Energy Commission has acknowledged problems with the Bushehr nuclear program and under-utilization of Iran's Pars oil and gas fields in the Persian gulf. He has indicated to Iranian reporters that a congressional commission is assigned to investigate "reasons behind the delay in launch of Bushehr nuclear power plant." International media have attributed the delay and sabotage of the power plant's facilities to a malicious software virus probably activated by Israelis or Americans.
Dr. Katoozian has also reported that Iranian leader is not happy with the under-utilization of Iran's Southern Pars oil and gas fields in Persian gulf, shared by Qatar. Many of the exploration and extraction projects in the Southern Pars field have been hampered or aborted following the strict enforcement of international sanctions and embargo against Iran. The Iranian leader, Ayatollah Khamenei made a rare point to personally visit the area recently to observe progress in various mega projects.
Dr. Katoozian's statements confirm the effectiveness of international pressures on Iranian energy sector, and sources of export income.
