55000 new prisoners in Iran in 18 months

Iranian news sources: Gholamhossein Esmaili, Director of Iranian Prison System, has confirmed that in the past 18 months alone 55000 new inmates have been added to Iran's prisons, causing further overpopulation.

Iran has one of the world's highest per-capita population of prisoners, including political dissidents, petty criminals, financial scoundrels, and drug-traffickers or users.
