Drinking water unsafe in Tehran
Marzieh Dastjerdi, Iranian Health Minister, announced yesterday that the city (municipal) water in some southern parts of Tehran contains unsafe levels of Nitrates. She advised pregnant women and children to avoid drinking the city water.
Tehran's municipal water was once called the "cleanest water" in the world but in recent years the quality has diminished drastically due to contaminated sources tapped to address the population overgrowth. Alireza Marandi, the former Health Minister of Islamic Republic, also confirms the water increasingly contains unsafe levels of nitrates and heavy metals.
