Iran's Musclemen, Karate men and wrestlers on top in Asian Games (video)
Iranian athletes had a stellar performance today in 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou, China. In men's discus throw, Iran's strong presence was felt when its musclemen Ehsan Haddadi (video below) and Mohammad Samimi won the gold and bronze medals (in picture on right and left), respectively.
In Karate, Zabihollah Pourshib snatched the gold medal in the +84 kilogram category after defeating Kuwaiti, Kazakh and Indonesian opponents.
In wrestling, Iran earned 2 gold and 1 silver medal. Sadeq Goudarzi, while cheered by Chinese spectators, managed to beat his Japanese rival in two consecutive streaks 1-0 and 3-0 to become the first athlete to win a gold medal for Iran's free style wrestling squad. Jamal Mirzaei won Iran's second Gold medal in the 84 kilogram category after defeating competent rivals from Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Syria and South Korea (in picture). Mehdi Taqavi won a silver medal in the 66 kilogram category.
Iranian athletes won four gold medals on Wednesday to take Iran's gold medal tally up to 16 so far. Iran is currently in fourth place behind China, South Korea and Japan with 172, 71 and 36 gold medals respectively. Iran's Press TV reports Iranian athletes hope to win more gold medals in wrestling, boxing, handball, volleyball, and Karate to secure the fourth place for Iran. Taiwan is currently tailing Iran in fifth place with 12 gold medals.
