What did I learn from the World Cup?
Some lessons I learned from the World Cup (they relate to Iranians also):
- Any team, regardless of national wealth and resources, skin color or race, can create glory and receive global respect, by perseverance, teamwork and playing well. Example: Ghana
- Racial and religious divisions do not matter much any more. No race is better than others. Blacks played in the German team - a team once known for its white superiority ideas. Whites played for African teams. Dutch players of Spanish descent played against the Spanish team. Muslims and Christians played alongside each other in some teams.
- Unlike human rights, respect cannot be demanded. It has to be earned. Losing in games 9and life) doesn't mean losing respect. Teams like Ghana, Germany and Japan prompted global respect when they played masterfully and gracefully, even though at the end they all lost and got eliminated.
- At the end of the games, after rankings and awards are granted, losers realize it was just all a "game!" There will always be more games. We may lose or win in the future. we may not even be allowed to play. So wise players take real joy, not in the temporary titles and results, but in practices and camaraderie, and in remaining fit and competitive, and a good human, before, during and after the games.
