(video) How CIA toppled Mosaddegh (Iran's first democratic government)
Iranian national leader Mohammad Mosaddegh, due to his worldwide popularity, defiance of Britain, and nonviolent fight for democracy, was named as Time Magazine's 1951 Man of the Year. Mosaddegh was picked over candidates like Winston Churchill and Dwight Eisenhower.
Iran's first modern democratic government headed by Mosaddegh, however, was overthrown by a CIA-led coup on 19 August 1953. The following two short videos describe the history. First video is based on Stephen Kinzer's award winning book "All the Shah's Men", and the second video is by veteran PBS investigative journalist Bill Moyers.
