This Month in Events: Younger Iranian Americans Support 25Band, Niyaz, K-von, Maz and Pezhvak Ensemble
Entertainment Blog, Kodoom.com Editorial:
Some 40 years after Iran's Islamic revolution, which kind of started a mass exodus, an estimated 4 million Iranians now claim residence outside the country. And the most powerful segment of this population, when it comes to deciding which concerts will be successful, seems to be the middle aged group, 30-50 years of age, supporting the new generation of artists who offer novel creative content and different works. Examples of such artists with upcoming performances are: 25 Band (superb romantic audio visual sensation in Persian), Niyaz (offering breathtaking spiritual synthesis of sound, image and light), Pezhvak ensemble (offering an amazing mystical musical improvisation and dance featuring Shahrokh Moshkin-Ghalam), Maz Jobrani (offering fresh but rare satirical wit from an immigrant's perspective), K-von (Called The Most Famous Half-Persian Comedian, offering bawdy yet smart comedy for younger Iranians and Americans), and even a classical music maestro such as Shahram Nazeri (performing in London jointly with legendary Tajik musician). Other interesting events can be found on our local events map HERE).
In December, the annual Persian concerts held in Las Vegas during the Christmas holidays suffered from slow sales despite performance by big pop music stars from the last generation (See details HERE).
Another event held earlier this month in Los Angeles to honor Sattar, a pop music star from the pre-revolutionary Iran, was well received by some of his contemporary artists and older Iranian immigrants but there were several publicly-available tables shown as NOT sold a day before the event on the ticketing website. The political nature of the event and high ticket prices of $350-$1000 could have been other factors in not attracting younger Iranian Americans to the event.
