Photoshoot With A Real Russian Bear for $417
Entertainment and Nature News Blog
This is what Svetlana and Yuri Panteleenko, a Russian couple living in Moscow with their domesticated bear post on a commercial website:
"We are pleased to offer you an interesting shooting in a picturesque Russian forest with a kind bear Stepan or Yasha... Bear Stepan is unique. He is very famous. The masters Svetlana and Yury have found him when he was a bear cub. He suffered from the hunters. They brought him up like their own child and he got so accustomed to the people that behaves like a pet. Not dangerous at all and very clever, no sedation and rough treatment! Now he is 25 (equal to 72 y.o. of a man) and he is a TV star. Stepan acts in the films, participates in the festivals and photoshoot. Sometimes people worry if the trainers treat well their animals. In case of Stepan you can be unworried: Svetlana and Yury love him and treat him like their beloved child... The cost of a photoshoot with a bear (Stepan or Yasha) is 417 USD... It is forbidden to be late for shooting, to be drunk, to make noise, to shoot the shooting process on video"
Animal rights activists oppose the exploitation of the bear for profit because he is denied his natural way of life: "It’s truly disturbing and certainly dangerous for the people involved and absolutely not in the best interest of the bear,” Lisa Wathne, captive exotic animal specialist and spokesperson for the Humane Society of the United States, tells Cosmopolitan.com. "Obviously, this bear is a huge animal, he’s a wild animal, despite this couple’s claim. Having a bear live in your home is not how an animal is domesticated." Experts at the Humane Society International also wonder whether or not his teeth have been pulled, a common (extremely painful) mutilation that would make him less threatening.
