An Iranian American who said NO to Steve Jobs!
In 2007, Arash Ferdowsi, an Iranian American student of M.I.T. (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) formed Dropbox with his business partner Drew Houston. In September of 2007 Ferdowsi dropped out of M.I.T. to move to San Francisco, where he successfully raised venture capital from several firms, and continued (as Chief Technology Officer) to grow the business. Drop box offers streamlined and virtual storage of digital files (Free for up to 2 G. You can try for yourself).
It is reported that in 2009 (the late) Steve Jobs invited Ferdowsi and Houston to his Apple Office and offered, over tea, to buy Dropbox. Reportedly his offer and a later invitation to meet again was rejected by Ferdowsi and Houston despite their personal admiration for the iconic Jobs.
Today Dropbox enjoys more than 45 million users worldwide and in October the company secured $250 million in financing. Recently the Inc. Magazine named Ferdowsi to its 2011 "30 Under 30" top entrepreneurs list.
