Fatemeh Motamed Aria and Behrouz Vosoughi in the news
This week, famed Iranian actress Fatemeh Motamed Aria was selected as a member of Jury for the Muhr AsiaAfrica Feature competition in The Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF).
Motamed Aria is an outspoken supporter of Iran's women's rights and reforms (such as the suppressed "green" movement). Her last "without Hijab" (head cover) appearance (picture above) in Doha Film Festival (Qatar) angered religious conservative media centers inside Iran. Observers will watch to see if Motamed Aria will appear with or without hijab (as a sign of protest against Iran's theocratic government) in The Dubai International Film Festival.
Motamed Aria was also a member of Jury in Tokyo's Filmex 2012 festival. On Sunday night's closing ceremony, Screen Daily reports that a special achievement award was given to veteran Iranian film actor Behrouz Vossoughi, who made a comeback this year in Bahman Ghobadi’s Rhino Season, which closed the festival. Rhino Season is considered by some critics a political statement against chaos that ensued Iran's 1979 revolution.
