Juliette Binoche wins Cannes best actress award, again defends jailed Iranian filmmaker
Juliette Binoche
Academy award winner Juliette Binoche today won this year's best actress prize at Cannes 2010 festival for her lead role in Abbas Kiarostami’s "Certified Copy." Binoche had wept last week in a press conference for Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi, a would-be member of jury in this year's festival, who has been jailed in Iran for his political views.
After receiving her award, Binoche held up a sign with the name Jafar Panahi spelled out in capital letters, and stated that she hoped Panahi would be at Cannes next year. The Jafar Panahi sign remained on the podium for most of the ceremony.
