Enjoy A Dreamlike Getaway at Bear Mountain, New York

Many Persians and Afghans like to spend time in the mountains as it reminds them of Alborz, Zagros and Hindu Kush mountains back home. The estimated 50000 Iranian and Afghan Americans living in the Northeast US, may know Bear Mountain, New York as the place to celebrate the annual Spring 13-Bedar picnic (Nature Day) but most may not know nestled in the beautiful state park is the Bear Mountain Inn and Lodge, which offers all you need to get away for a day or two - at a reasonable expense - to unwind in the majestic Hudson Valley.
Bear Mountain, New York, located only one hour from New York City and borders of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut is where you can find top restaurants, shopping malls, winter sports and orchards, along rich and diverse wildlife and hiking trails in Bear Mountain State Park. The West Point military Academy is only a few miles away, offering free admission to the museum and visitor center.
At Bear Mountain Inn and Lodge, there is something for every age to enjoy during the winter months, such as an all-weather, indoor carousel and outdoor ice skating rink.
The main lodge is a rustic and inviting centerpiece of the Bear Mountain Inn with its huge fireplace and cozy sitting areas. Amenities include elegant dining in the famous Restaurant 1915 (great fireplace and views, quality foods but a bit pricey) and the Hiker’s Café (reasonable prices for a quick “grab and go”) for your mid-day hike surrounding mountain-top Hessian Lake, the site of the historic 1777 Revolutionary War battle. There is even a day spa located on the 3rd floor to enjoy a day of pampering and relaxation.
There are several options for staying overnight at the historic Inn. There are special packages offering Shopping, Spa or restaurant credits (Sunday night stays).
For regular stays, the Inn (main lodge) is a great choice as it is newly renovated with 15 deluxe accommodations, starting at $143. These rooms are often booked in advance so book early or look into Sunday night stays for special package rates. The front parking area around the Inn, as of early 2019, is sill undergoing renovations.
For as little as $79 (special rates when available) you can enjoy a more rustic, authentic experience in the affordable yet comfortable and modern Overlook Lodge or Stone Cottages. Make sure you request rooms with upgraded heating systems and views.
