Golshifteh Farahani stars in films by Roland Joffé and Hiner Saleem
Golshifteh Farahani is the Iranian-born actress who gained international fame with her roles in Asghar Farhadi's award-winning "About Elly" and in Ridley Scott's "Body of Lies" (next to Leonardi DiCaprio). Her fame and outspoken personality in defense of women's rights in Iran, and non-observance of Hijab (women's cover mandated by Iranian government), angered Iranian government and prompted her departure from Iran.
Golshifteh has learned to speak English and French. Her two new movies (outside Iran) are scheduled for screening this year and expected to be critically and commercially successful:
"There be dragons," directed by Roland Joffé, the famed director of "The Killing Fields" and "The Mission," is a medium budget film ($35 million budget) depicting the horror of the Spanish Civil War and a journalist who discovers his own estranged father had a deep, dark and devastating connection to a would-be saint's life. Golshifteh who will be Leila, the Journalists' girlfriend, acts along Charlie Cox, Olga Kurylenko, Wes Bentley and others (trailer below).
The French production "Si tu meurs, je te tue" (in English: If you Die, I will Kill You!), is directed by Hiner Saleem, a director with Kurdish-Iraqi heritage. Golshifteh is Siba, the fiance' of a Kurdish immigrant who unexpectedly dies in France, and his French friend ...
Golshifteh also has upcoming roles in Rachid Bouchareb's "Just Like a Woman" (in Pre-production) and next to Isabella Rossellini in "Chicken with Plums" (post-production) by Vincent Paronnaud and Marjane Satrapi (writer of best selling Persepolis book and animated film.
Golshifteh continues her activism in defense of human rights in Iran. She recently participated in a rally in Paris with other Iranian and French artists in defense of Jafar Panahi (video here), famed Iranian director jailed for his political beliefs.
