Habib releases Mahkoom "Convict" in Iran
By Mohamad Mohebian
It has been almost 4 years since my father Habib had decided to go back to Iran after he was banned from working as a musician following the 1979 revolution. Since his return he has been trying, through proper legal channels, to get "permission to perfom" again in his homeland. Unfortunatly he has run into issues with a few people opposed to him including some employees of the committee known as "counsel of culture and Islamic guidance" or irshad amongst others.
In these past few years he has settled with his wife Nahid and has been leading a simple quiet life in Shomal where they are able to be closer to nature and enjoy life far from the chaos of city life and the variety of problems it poses for them. For the past 3 years we have all heard many different and conflicting reports from TV and news outlets regarding Habib's status and permission to be in his own country and to be able to openly make music. We were often surprised and dumbfounded with the many inaccurate reports about his situation, and it would and still does sadden us when we hear things about him that are completely untrue.
I Mohamad Mohebian have to say; I have not personally witnessed a more courageous move seeing my father make this migration to Iran at such a sensitive time. I know what he went through and has gone through decades following the revolution; and just lately with the move of sacrifice he made. The man's beard grew whiter, but his patience and skin grew more thick. On one side welcoming him and promoting his movement, and on the other side, creating issues for him and blocking his path -- as we have both balanced as well as imbalanced people.
Habib has finally decided (as reflected in his facebook fan page also) to start releasing his work, perhaps some new songs as well as songs from the album that has been in limbo. His latest piece is a collaboration with a friend and gentleman by the name Samir Zand who is a local singer who has permission to perform and sing within Iran. Samir is proud to do this project with Habib describing him as not only a master of his art, but a good-hearted sincere man. This will be Habib's first collaboration and official music video release since his stay in Iran. Song writer is of course Habib, arrangements by Mohammad Mansouri, one of Iran's best known and respected musicians, and lyrics from Mina Jalali. The music video has been produced by Noise Production. I don't want to spoil the surprise, but it is a project people might have some familiarity with from the past. The title Mahkoom "convict" is a rather interesting one since there has been an accusation game going on. We are a culture of accusing and judging, but it--"the song"--really has nothing to do with Habibs situation. I hope you all enjoy the song. Habib, my father sings when he wants, where he wants... for his heart, and for all of us. Habib fears none but God, and always stands for and behind his country Iran.
Love and Peace,
