Iranian celebrities join football team in Brazil (Pictorial)
Persian News Engine, Kodoom.com: A $1.5 million project called "12th Player" is launched by Iran's film industry to have a select group of actors, actresses and sports celebrities accompany Iran's national football team to Brazil's World Cup 2014. Among celebrities selected for the entourage are actresses Niosha Zeighami, Nasrin Moghanloo, Mohammad Reza Golzar, Hesam Navab Safavi, and Laleh Eskandari.
The source of project funding is unclear. Iran's Football Federation Chief, Azizollah Mohammadi, was in the launch meeting (pictured third from left above) but media sources cite private funding for the project.
Iran enforces strict Hijab policy for women attending government-sponsored events. Traditional Religious groups and individuals, like Javad Shamaghdari, Iran's former Head of Film Division, oppose secular actresses dressed "immodestly" by conservative measures. Shamaghdari's referral to such westernized actresses as "sleazy whores" has caused outrage among female actresses.
