Iranian Concerts in Las Vegas Lose Steam
Independent aggregator of Iran-related News/Events, Kodoom.com: It appears that this December, the majority of the half million Iranian Americans living in Southern California prefer to celebrate Christmas and New year near home instead of travelling to Las Vegas for the annual Persian mega concerts usually held late December in Las Vegas.
The stay-in-California trend may be caused by a number of factors: Bad past experiences with unprofessional concert promoters, high Vegas concert ticket prices, traffic jams and longer drive times to Vegas, safety concerns following the mass shooting in Vegas, reduced attraction of casinos and gambling for younger Iranians, or simply a preference of the younger Iranian immigrants for smaller, less pricey local events offering better service and lesser known emerging artists in Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego (see local events map HERE). After all, many of the famous Persian pop artists performing in Vegas have been performing the same songs or styles there for years, whereas local events offer new talents and more choices, even including elaborate magic stage comedy productions entertaining for all ages at a fraction of the cost of events in Vegas (Link).
There are of course always exceptions. This year, a non-Iranian promoter (the renowned Laugh Factory at the Tropicana) has successfully organized a different type of event (Non concert) performed from December 17-24 by K-von, "The Most Famous Half-Persian American Comedian" with Melissa Shoshahi. The event has been greatly popular with young and middle aged Americans and Iranian Americans with reasonable ticket prices (Event and Ticket Link, Need to Scroll down to see event).
Many promoters of Las Vegas Persian events still spend a large part of their advertising budget on traditional channels like Persian TV, Radio channels or papers that appeal to older Iranian immigrants with decreasing populations and disposable income.
