Legoland Florida: A Family Haven
I call LEGO® a "global" brand because it is now popular among Iranian and Iranian-American families who encourage creativity in their children. But many Iranian-American families may not know about LEGOLAND® parks that offer family-oriented fun for a reasonable cost.
I recently visited LEGOLAND® Florida in Winter Haven, Florida, a short distance from Orlando, with my husband and children. Adventure abounds for children of all ages, especially the 3-12 crowd. Where else can a kid learn to drive a car around a city street with traffic lights, stop signs, and crosswalks? It was so enjoyable to watch future drivers navigate around the corners using real stop and go pedals while learning the rules of the road.
And where some parks go for the technological thrill, LEGOLAND® weaves together creativity and fun. Parents will appreciate the educational aspect of the park, like the Imagination Zone, where young and old alike can be found head to head building and testing their racecars down a variety of race ramps. Kids can even take a class and build a computerized LEGO robot. This attraction, like others, was wisely split between the younger Lego builders and the more experienced experts, giving them a challenging endeavor.
Among the most amazing structures and models built by LEGO's Master Builders is a full-sized Ford Explorer SUV model built from more than 400,000 pieces of LEGO! (See video)
To keep pace with short attention spans, wisely planned is the play spot in each attraction. So while the parents hold the space in line, the kids can build and play with others. There is also a subtle blend of active engagement and quieting moments for the whole family, like Miniland USA. At different spots you could interact with the amazing display of miniature landscapes, such racing a Lego car in the Daytona International Speedway. The Star Wars (TM) and the New York skyline Miniland displays are amazingly intricate and well-scaled.
A memorable family experience can also be found down at Pirates’ Cove. A few seaworthy souls who sat upfront during the show got the chance to blast some water cannons at a few dastardly pirates – and get blasted back! And while the waterpark was closed during offseason (it opens this weekend), that didn’t stop us from getting soaked in the World of Chima.
The food is standard park fare with a few vegetarian options including gluten, egg, nut and soyfree offerings. What I enjoyed most was the customer service. I arrived late in the day and was happily told that whatever I saw on the menu they would make to order. This showed a conscious effort to serve the customer with fresh fare and not be wasteful or serve “dried up” stuff.
LEGOLAND® Florida spans over a 150 acre interactive them park featuring more than 50 rides, shows and attraction all geared toward families with children ages 3-12. And the Water park is opening this weekend. You can Check the website for information for on-line ticket sales to save money (at this point $15 OFF when you pick a date), and hours of operations in general, as the park has limited hours on some days or seasons. And don’t forget to remind the kids to bring their minifigures for trading with park staff throughout the day!
