Londoners Snub Trump by Watching Farhadi's Oscar Winning Film (Video)
On February 26, thanks to London's Muslim mayor, the popular Trafalgar Square was transformed into London’s biggest cinema for a free screening (event Link) of Asghar Farhadi’s Oscar-winning The Salesman. To protest Trump's visa ban on Iranians and other forms of extremism and oppression in the world, Asghar Farhadi sent a recorded video message (above) to the spectators.
The screening – just hours before the Oscars were handed out at the 89th Academy Awards in Hollywood - was attended by some 10,000 people and stars of London’s film industry.
London's liberal Muslim mayor Sadiq Khan organised the screening, along with actress Lily Cole, producer Kate Wilson, and filmmaker Mark Donne, to coincide with the Oscars to celebrate the capital’s success as a creative hub and a global beacon for openness and diversity.
