Max Amini Unplugged: Success with comical improvisation
Few stand up comedians can "improvise" equally well in Persian and English, but Max Amini does just that, which is perhaps why he is becoming a regular on comedy stages in eight countries - United States, Canada, England, Australia, Germany, Dubai, Sweden, and Malaysia (see Max's events here). Through eccentric comical impressions and novel story telling, Max delivers a message about family ties, cultural aspects, and social topics. This week Kodoom.com caught up with him for a short "informal" chat (Part of our INFORMAL series):
Kodoom.com: You're now one of the most active and popular Iranian-American comedians. What sets your style apart from other comedians?
Max: I am more of an "observational" comedian. I improvise and interact with audience on topics related to social behavior and interactions. My style of comedy is more than just my material, it is "on the spot" and "in the moment." Recently in Dubai, people who attended two back to back shows at 8 PM and 10 PM shared with me that they were pleasantly surprised to find the content of two shows mostly different.
I get the crowd into my show. I GO into the crowd. I keep them on the edge. Yet I mostly use "clean" materials (i.e., no curses or vulgarity).
Kodoom.com: You seem to be popular with ladies. What can you share about your personal life with us?
Max: Well, I am a fairly private guy but I can share with you that I am not into mass dating or playful behavior. I am in a serious relationship now with a person I have known for eight years. I am open to settling down for long term if it can accommodate my lifestyle, traveling, etc. It is not easy but the right person can make it easier.
Recently a random fan of my facebook page (link) sent me an angry note and said "goodbye!!" and UNLIKED my facebook page because she found out I am dating someone. I thought to myself, what if I marry? Will my accounts be HACKED by zealous fans or will I receive emails with viruses! :)

Max Amini was born in Tucson Arizona to Iranian parents and raised on the East Coast. He graduated from UCLA’s school of Theater, Film and Television in 2004. As an actor, Max has over 50 film and television credits including NBC’s Heroes, regular appearances on Comedy Central’s Mind of Mencia, and a leading role in the upcoming feature film Beyond Paradise.
