Mehdi Yarrahi Was Banned After this Anti-War Video: Nazi Armband and Russian Trapper Hat
Independent Aggregator of Iran-related News/Events, Kodoom.com: Iranian pop singer Mehdi Yarrahi has been banned after publishing a music video criticizing constant wars and bloodshed. In part of the song, Yarrahi's lyrics translate to "Death won again, Wisdom lost again, All our memories tied to wars again, our homes and schools damaged again.. I am at loss why wars take so long, why our new generations are also sacrificed for wars .. I am the last martyr of this tribe, a tribe that needs fodo and water and not wars, .. why should we pay for cost of wars, Someone should respond what did we achieve with all these wars ..
In defense of himself, Yarrahi says: "It is a duty of any artist to reconcile the powerful with the voice of a society. Unfortunately, the powerful in Iran silence any critical voices and God forbid accuse me of insulting our martyrs."
Yarrahi admitted he was a bit mischievous when he published an unauthorized copy of the video which is not exactly the same as the copy permitted by Ministry of Islamic Guidance but denies limiting the scope of the video to Iran : "I wear a Nazi armband, Russian trapper hat, British boots to protest war in general."
Yarrahi says he has been banned before and is ready to accept the consequences of the new video as well.
