Rags to Riches for Iranian Model Who Married Son of Nigerian Oil Billionaire in $8 Million Wedding
Independent Aggregator of Iran-related News/Events, Kodoom.com: It is said that bitter divorces often follow lavish weddings yet extravagant wedding ceremonies are still very popular among many Africans and Iranians, particularly those wealthy expatriates in America and Europe. Recently the $8 million opulent wedding of a British Iranian model to his wealthy African husband was called by British media as one of the world's most extravagant wedding ceremonies.
The wedding of Iranian model Nazanin Jafarian Ghaissarifar with Folarin Alakija, the son of Nigerian oil billionaire, was celebrated at Blenheim Palace, in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, the birthplace of Winston Churchill and main residence of the Duke of Marlborough. Alakija, an investor and cinematographer, tragically lost his first wife, with whom he had a daughter, to cancer six years ago. The newlyweds met through mutual friends.
Nazanin, who once dated Rob Kardashian, studied Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Manchester and received a graduate Diploma in Law while working as a model and marketing consultant. But she also experienced bitter family issues and bankruptcy after moving to England from Iran.
According to Daily Mail Nazanin's divorced mother, Nooshin, was declared bankrupt in 2014 and now lives in housing association house in Knutsford, Cheshire. Nazanin's younger brother Sam was given a six-week jail sentence suspended for drug driving having taken cocaine.
The family’s downfall appears to have begun after the breakdown of her mother’s second marriage to restaurateur Reza Mortaz Jalili, ten years her senior. The couple married in 2003 and moved into a £260,000 house in Wilmslow, Cheshire. But the relationship disintegrated and Nooshin, Naza and Sam moved a mile down the road. It was while they were living there, on March 12, 2014, that Nooshin, who was unemployed, received a bankruptcy order at Macclesfield County Court.
Within a year, the family had split up and Nooshin was living in the housing association property in Knutsford. Then last year, Sam was charged with two counts of drug driving after speeding through Macclesfield town centre.
The groom has perhaps had an easier past. Alakija's mother, Folorunso Alakija, is the vice chair of Famfa Oil, a Nigerian oil company, and one of the richest black women in the world, with an estimated fortune of $2.1 billion (£1.68 billion), according to Forbes. In 2014 she unseated Oprah Winfrey as the richest woman of African descent in the world.
Celebrity florist Jeff Leatham arranged the incredible flower displays of the wedding ceremonies. The venue was adorned with one million white roses, and there was also a 4 meter cake!
