The Iranian French Azerbaijani Ukrainian, Muslim Jewish Catholic, Filmmaker Dies of Coronavirus

Robert Hossein who died last week of coronavirus at the age of 93 was an accomplished French film actor, director and writer with an interestingly diverse cultural heritage. Although Hossein was himself baptized in a Catholic Church, his father (André Hossein) was a composer of Iranian (Azerbaijani) Muslim origin and his mother was Anna Mincovschi, a Jewish comedy actress from Soroca (Bessarabia, Ukraine, Moldova).
Hossein directed the 1982 adaptation of Les Misérables, and appeared in Vice and Virtue, Le Casse, Les Uns et les Autres and Venus Beauty Institute.
Hossein was married three times and had four children. He was 19 years older than his second wife Caroline Eliacheff who was 15 years old when they got married.
