Travel to Camelback Mountains for Wintertime Fun Family Activities
Travel and Entertainment Blog, Kodoom.com Editorial
We wanted to share with our family-oriented readers living in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland, another "family-friendly" activity in the area that our friends and families have enjoyed in Winters:
Camelback Mountain Resort
Many immigrant populations, particularly the successful and affluent Iranian-Americans, love America's outdoors and family-oriented fun. For those living in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland, The Poconos area offers a great break from their busy urban lives. And one of the few attractions that offers both summer and winter (Ski and snowtubing) activities is the Camelback Mountain Resort which is now celebrating its 50th Anniversary.
During this snowy holiday season, like many fellow non-skiers seeking fun and safe family-oriented snow activities, we visited Camelback's snowtubing lanes with my family and friends. As a large group, we made an advanced phone reservation and skipped the ticket buying queue. For a little than the cost of a movie ticket in a theater, you can enjoy three hours of fun-packed downhill snowtubing races. You can race individually - in your own tube, but it may be spinny! - or be connected with 5-6 other tubers to form a fast-moving chain racing sliders in other lanes. It is best to ensure that adults - and not children- hold the tying cords in tube chains.
The lines were mostly organized and orderly but the returning/exiting and entering queues were not fully isolated from each other to avoid occasional tube turnover gridlock. The average up-and-down-the-hill round trip time was about 15 minutes, not bad for the holiday weekend. The staff were professional and safety rules were followed by people. It was refreshing to see diversity among patrons and people enjoying the event and fresh mountain air. Among those happy and healthy-looking blushed faces in the queue, you could see white, black, Asian and Middle Easterners, as singles, families and couples.
Weekends seem busier than weekdays or non-Holiday season, but if you arrive early by 9 AM, you can save $10 and enjoy shorter lines. You can enjoy hot beverages and food in the resort or enjoy one of the many nearby restaurants in the Poconos area. With 42 lanes and two surface lifts, "CamelBack's Snowtubing park is the biggest park in the USA and does over 80,000 visits a season," according to Mr. Czarnecki, Vice President of Marketing at Camelback.
Our family and friends thought it was a worthwhile, healthy and great fun-filled family activity.
