Video: Golshifteh Sings in Hindi in Indian Film Co-starring Irfaan Khan
Exiled feminist Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani is now popular among Indians as well after co-starring with Bollywood star Irrfan Khan in Anup Singh’s "The Song Of Scorpions."
In an interview published in India Times, Golshifteh discusses her own and her family's trials and tribulations after she left Iran in search of freedom.
In an interview with India Today, Farahani recalls how she shaved off her head at 16 and would wear tight clothes to conceal her breasts so that she was not looked at as an "object of desire and become invisible" while she walked the streets in her country: "I wanted to be free. Right now, my generation is forced to live the life we did not choose. And that can be a fatal. We did not have anything to do with the Revolution, but have been forced to bear its ramifications. However, I am optimistic that our generation would be the page-turners. We are bound to be the renaissance generation that will break everything. We may get shattered, but we will change the course."
Another of Golshifteh Farahani's recent films, "Girls of the Sun," about the bravery of Kurdish women in fighting ISIL, was featured last month in Toronto International Film Festival (link).
