Video: Saudi Arabia pays Iranian-American brothers to lose with Iranian flag in WWE charade!
Independent Aggregator of Iran-related News/Events, Kodoom.com: The American-based WWE or World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc., charged Saudi Arabians huge sums to stage a fake defeat of men carrying Iranian flag by Saudi Arabian wrestlers on Friday night in a charade in Jeddah called "Royal Rumble." The show was called by Deadspin a "five-hour propaganda tribute to the House of Saud!"
It was not the first time WWE performed in the Kingdom, though it was the first to include women and children. At one point the paid Iranian-American wrestlers, the Daivari Brothers, were thrown out by a group of four amateur Saudi wrestlers who were plucked from tryouts earlier in the week. On their way to the ring, the Daivari Brothers waved the Iranian flag, ushering in a huge chorus of boos and setting off criticism from some Saudi Twitter users.
The fake fictional defeat of Iranians was reported as real news by Al Arabiya, the Dubai-based Saudi-owned pan-Arab television news channel.
After the humiliating defeat with Iranian flag, Ariya Daivari reportedly received death threats for the skit and issued an apology to Iranians.
Few WWE fans in the U.S. recognize the Daivaris but most know the legendary Iranian-born "Iron Sheik," a former Iranian wrestler and Assistant Coach for Team USA in the '70s.
The expensive desperate anti-Iranian propaganda in Jeddah was designed mainly for local consumption in Saudi Arabia. In the US, however, many Americans respect Iran as the power house and world Champion of wrestling, the sport not the entertainment charade! In 2016, Iranian freestyle wrestlers defended their world Championship title as they first defeated Americans - in a close match- and then Russians, before an impressively large and loud crowd of Iranian Americans at The Forum in Los Angeles.
