Videos: Behind the Scenes with Googoosh and Family, and Political Concert Highlighting Shah, Khomeini and Khamenei
Earlier this year, some 17000 Iranian Americans attended one of the largest and perhaps most political Persian concerts in Los Angeles' history, performed by Iranian diva Googoosh at the Hollywood Bowl.
Many in the audience were ecstatic when Googoosh ended the concert with emotional scenes of the late former King Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (shah), an Iranian woman protesting mandatory Hijab (the Daughters of Revolution Street movement) and protesters burning posters of Ayatollah Khomeni (founder of 1979 Islamic revolution) and Ayatollah Khamenei (current Leader of Islamic Republic of Iran).
The orchestra ensemble was directed by Manouchehr Cheshm Azar who also performed on piano. Googoosh performed nostalgic songs from 1970s, some with Hassan Shamei Zadeh and Martik.
The concert was designed by Raha Etemadi (UK-based ManoTo TV), produced/supported by Robert Dehnoushi (Stars on Brand), Shahram Norz (Googoosh management) and Live Nation, and sponsored by Alireza Ardekani (Farhang Foundation) and BBC Persian.
