Wintertime family activities: Gaylord Palms
I wanted to share with your readers, including the family-oriented Iranian Americans, several "family-friendly" activities my family and I enjoyed this Winter:
ICE at Gaylord Palms: A winter wonderland in Florida!
If you miss Christmas time activities and ambiance in the sunny and warm Florida, a visit to Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center - A Marriott hotel, not far from Disney attractions in Orlando - may change your mind. This year’s feature theme was ICE! Frosty the Snowman! This activity kept our feet moving to enjoy the artistic ice sculptures on display and in progress. What made this visit so unique is the magnitude of the exhibit. We had the chance to see up close a craftsman carving the sculpture in 8 degrees Fahrenheit (-13 degrees centigrade) and slip down a frozen ice slide. Be warned: Come equipped with hats and gloves especially for the young ones even though cool blue parkas are included in the visit.
You can enjoy a hot cup of cocoa and peruse the goodies available for purchase in the Holiday Hall or take time to create your own gingerbread cookie or snowman with Gingy from the movie Shrek or simply stroll through Gaylord Palms beautiful atrium filled with amazing lights and the giant 54-foot Christmas tree on display around Christmas and new Year.
There is a fee for parking, the ICE exhibit and Gingerbread Cookie activities. If you plan to stay at the hotel mid-week or during off-peak specials (can be found on their site), however, or if you are a Florida resident, you can enjoy bargain rates for this 5-star hotel accessible to anyone in the Orlando-Tampa areas.
