Better for the Environment and Humans: Advanced Bidets Offer Hygiene and Comfort in Toilet Seats
Health, Technology and Product Review Blog, Kodoom.com Editorial:
For years many Asians, including Iranians, Afghans, Kurds, Turks, Armenians, Koreans and Japanese, dreaded traveling or living in Europe or Americas because Western-style toilets do not offer washing capabilities needed for the kind of underside and anal hygiene practiced in Asia. In Japan, electronic bidet toilets have replaced squat toilets in 81% of households and include advanced features such as anal hygiene, bidet washing, seat warming, and deodorization. But Japanese style bidets are expensive and rarely seen outside of Asia. Now thanks to Bio Bidet, many of the Japanese style bidet functions and features are offered to US residents at reasonable prices.
Why Use Bidets?
According to medical experts such as Dr. Alan Kamrava, M.D., a California-based colo-rectal and general surgeon, and Dr. Phillip J. Buffington, M.D., Chief Medical Officer of the Urology Group in Cincinnati, toilet papers leave more bacteria, fecal/urinal residues, chemical additives (used in paper), and skin irritation in anal and vaginal areas than bidets. People who use bidets and water often feel incredibly clean and psychologically refreshed throughout the day instead of feeling dirty in some way, smelly and in need of changing underwear.
According to findings of a 2011 scientific research paper, in addition to cleansing effect, bidets could be used to reduce anal resting pressure by relaxing the anal sphincter pressure, thus reducing anal pain in patients with ano-rectal diseases, such as an anal fissure or hemorrhoids, and during postoperative periods after operations for anal diseases. There are also reports that use of bidets with adjustable water pressure and temperature can help relieve constipation.
Bidets are also environmentally advantageous. On average each American uses approximately 57 sheets of toilet paper every single day, adding up to over 3 million tons of toilet paper used in the USA each year. A bidet can greatly reduce the use of toilet paper by 75% or more. The bleaching process used to manufacture toilet paper produces dioxins, a cancer causing substance harmful to humans, animals and the environment. According to an article in Scientific American switching to bathroom bidets could save some 15 million trees a year. To those who say that bidets waste water, the article counters that the amount (1/8th of a gallon per use on average) is trivial compared to 37 gallons of water used to produce a single roll of toilet paper! Furthermore, A bidet can also help households reduce plumbing problems and clogs in sewer systems due to build up of toilet paper residues.
With all these benefits offered by a good bidet-style toilet, no wonder The Japan Toilet Association celebrates an unofficial Toilet Day on November 10. After all, in Japan the numbers 11/10 (for the month and the day) read as "Good Toilet!"
Why Use Bio Bidet?
An American company based in the Crystal Lake suburb of Chicago, BBC Innovation Corporation offers a series of Bio Bidet products and models that actually work with current toilets already installed in the US. Products range in price from $59 to $395 or higher, from basic bidet attachments and nozzles to advanced and luxurious top-of-the-line electronic bidet seats such as USPA 6800 series offering attractive, piano black styling stripe, classic beveled edges, and functions such as dual self-cleaning spray nozzles, remote control with LCD window, luxurious warm water cleansing and drying functions, warm air dryer, a deodorizer, auto wash and kids functions, heated seat (ideal for winters), Night light, a constipation relieving IIP (Intensive Impulse Pulsation) enema function, soft feminine cleaning, massage cleaning, and much more.
The company’s website (Biobidet.com) offers easy step-by-step instructions to install the seats, which are fairly easy to follow for DIY (Do It Yourself) folks. Alternatively, a professional plumber can be hired to install the unit in about an hour, not a costly operation.
We had a chance to install and test the UB-6800 series. The Bio Bidet seat which replaces regular toilet seats, is aesthetically pleasing, slightly elevated, wider in the back and narrower in the front so comfortable for most people (except perhaps larger overweight people or folks with shorter legs). The cord length is limited so you may need an extension cord to reach a wall outlet.
Once the unit was installed, we were impressed with the comfort and range of functions offered by the Bio Bidet such as gentle warm water washing, posterior cleaning, bidet for feminine wash and kids mode. The temperature and pressure of wash cycles can be adjusted to your desired setting. Overall, we believe the unit, when properly maintained, would be greatly appreciated in households caring about hygiene and comfort, particularly in Iranian and Middle Eastern households.
The good news is that Bio Bidet is running a special $200 OFF promotional sales (almost 50% OFF already competitive prices) at Costco.com this week.
