Iran 15th Globally and First Among Islamic Countries in Science Production: USA is Still Iran’s Top Science Collaborator
Science Blog, Kodoom.com Editorial:
According to new data published by Web Of Science, Iran is now ranked 15th globally in science production and first among Islamic countries. Iran published some 25500 scientific papers, proceedings and documents in the first half of 2018, placing her 15th globally and ahead of Russia, Switzerland, Sweden, Turkey and Poland.
Interestingly, despite Iran's warm political relations with Russia, scientifically, USA remained Iran’s top scientific collaborator among main foreign partners between 2008 and 2014, followed by Canada, UK, Germany and Malaysia, according to a UNESCO report. The report also claims that under the pressure of sanctions, Iran has accelerated the shift from a resource-based economy to a knowledge economy but progress has been hampered by low investment in R&D.
Demographically, Iranians are among the most educated immigrant populations in the world, many forced to leave their homeland to escape strict theocratic rules, economic hardships and lack of resources caused by sanctions and mismanagement.
