Iran reports hottest temperature on the Planet: 70 Celsius
Iranian news search engine Kodoom.com: A group has documented temperatures of 70 Celsius (158 degrees of Fahrenheit) in the Gandom Beryan area in Shahdad Desert in Iran's Southern state of Kerman. Iranian sources claim NASA's satellite imagery has also documented this temperature but no official attempt has been made by Iranian authorities to register the record. The hilly area which is 80 kM from Shahdad, is covered by dark volcanic (Igneous) rocks. It is reported that a cow's carcasses has been found in the vicinity but due to the extreme temperature, it has not been decomposed and only dried up. Reportedly, only in the month of January where temperatures drop to biologically safe limits, the area can be visited without special equipment.
