Iran's once high-flowing river, Karoon, dangerously dry and polluted
Karoon river in Iran
Jam Jam reports that the once high-flowing Iranian river Karoon, is now severely dry and contaminated with sewer pollutants. The low upstream influx of fresh water, combined with high influx of waste water to the river, has reduced oxygen concentrations to very low levels. The report also indicates that the recent uptick of diarrhea and diseases in the Southern Iranian city of Ahvaz may have been caused by the pollution in the river.
Environmentalists have been warning about imminent danger to several of Iranian lakes and rivers.
