Turkish-Born Muslim Scientist, Awarded in Iran, Developed Pfizer’s COVID-19 Vaccine

Although still half of Americans are skeptical about (financial, political, efficacy and safety aspects of) the coronavirus vaccines, it is ironic that one of the first vaccines to the market (by Pfizer) was developed by Turkish-born muslim scientist Dr. Ugur Sahin who was awarded a biennial Iranian prize for Muslims in Science and Technology in 2019.
Dr. Sahin and his wife Dr. Türeci were able to use the so-called messenger RNA technology to rapidly develop a vaccine together with Pfizer. Dr. Sahin began work on the vaccine in January at his company's (BioNTech) headquarter, based in Mainz, Germany.
Interestingly, business trumped nationalism and politics as Dr. Sahin, who is a Turkish-born Muslim raised in Germany, developed a friendship and good working relations with Albert Bourla, the Greek chief executive of Pfizer, despite the historic antagonism between their birthplaces, Turkey and Greece.
