Pink Floyd's Roger Waters Threatened After Calling for Boycott of Israel
The world-famous British musician Roger Waters, founding member of the iconic rock band Pink Floyd, known among many Iranians with The Wall, has become a staunch supporter of the international BDS, Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement targeting Israel over its discriminatory abusive treatment of Palestinians and building divisive walls. One blogger writes: "True to his legacy with Pink Floyd, Waters won’t stop until he tears down the apartheid wall that’s destroying so many lives."
Waters has received threats and intimidation by right wing Jewish groups. Last month, Nassau County officials in New York unsuccessfully attempted to shut down Waters' concerts citing a local anti-BDS bill. Despite this, Roger Waters has continued to speak out. He has written a piece in The New York Times titled "Congress Shouldn’t Silence Human Rights Advocates."
In the op-ed, Waters has criticized a bill being considered in the Senate to silence supporters of BDS. Roger Waters was interviewed last month by Amy Goodman of Democracy Now:
Waters is also a vocal opponent of Trump. In his recent concert in Denver, Colorado, on a giant LED video screen suspended behind the stage, images of Trump were superimposed with KKK and Nazi Germany iconography, and at one point during the song “Pigs,” there was even a brief zoom-in of a Trump statue with a micro-penis. Every time Rogers sung the line of the song’s chorus, “Ha ha, charade you are,” the word “charade” was beamed on screen next to leering portraits of Trump:
