Iranian pilot and crew disciplined for not delaying a flight to observe religious prayers
Independent Search Engine for Iran-related News/Events, Kodoom.com: It is perhaps the first time ever in the history of airline industry that a pilot is punished for being timely! But on Tuesday the pilot and crew of Taftan Airline flight from Zahedan to Tehran were disciplined and suspended from work for 15 days for not delaying the flight, according to Iranian news sources.
The Airline CEO reported that at 4:30 AM on Tuesday, 25 religious passengers of the flight refrained from boarding and stood on the runway tarmac to observe their pre-dawn Islamic prayer on time (before sunrise). Meanwhile, the pilot decided not to wait and departed because the flight was already delayed by 15 minutes.
On Tuesday, Tehran's major airports were closed early due to Iran's Army Day, so the pilot of Taftan Air had indeed no choice but departing Zahedan on time to ensure the flight arrived in destination Tehran by 6:30 AM before the airport was shut down. Yet, he was punished for leaving behind the orthodox religious passengers who opted to do their pre-dawn prayer instead of boarding the flight. The procrastinating passengers were offered an apology, a return flight to Tehran and refunds on their airline tickets.
