Two Iranian Film Makers not allowed to join the delegation Invited by OSCAR to Los Angeles
Following last February's trip of a group from the The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, to Tehran, a group of Iranian film makers are to visit Los Angeles next week. In conjunction with this visit The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the UCLA Film & Television Archive will present a series of recent Iranian films, each followed by a discussion with one or more of the film’s principal creators. BREAKING NEWS: Farhangsaraye Pooya in Paris reports on Thursday afternoon that two members of the delegation, Fatemah Motamed-Aria and Mojtaba Mirtahmasb, were stopped at Iran Airport and not allowed to leave the country due to their support of the "green" reform movement. Their passports were seized and they were ordered to report to Intelligence officials for interrogations on Saturday.
UCLA has one of the oldest ongoing Iranian film festivals in the United States, but rarely have the filmmakers been present at their screenings. This program offers eight recent films, representing each of the members of a visiting artist delegation from Iran, and will offer the opportunity to hear about their creative process in their own words.
