Finally women show hair on Iranian TV but through lengthy cinematic trickery
Independent Aggregator of Iran-related News/Events, Kodoom.com: Perhaps for the first time since Iran's Islamic revolution, "Nafas," a TV series airing on Iran's Channel 3, depicts women without Hijab (head scarf) showing some hair, despite the long-standing ban imposed, after the 1979 Islamic revolution, on women's hair on public TV. Mehdi Roshan Ravan, Head of Channel 3's Film production says the series is about the pre-revolutionary era during the former King (shah) when Hijab was not enforced on women, so the producers had to show 'some" women without the head scarf.
Facing harsh criticism by radical Islamists, Roshan Ravan has explained the complex cinematic trickery used by producers to meet Iran's religious "cover" laws: "Producers utilized complex techniques to edit unveiled scarf-less footage of "non-Muslim" girls, taped on green screens outside Iran, in Armenia, into the main track containing scenes from Iranian actresses, taped in Iran, observing Hijab and head cover rules."
This is perhaps the first time a complex film editing technique is used to address the very difficult cinematic challenge of showing in the same scene hair on some actresses, in a location that allows display of hair, and NOT showing hair on other co-actresses in a location that forbids the display of hair.
