German string quartet performs at Iran's historic monument in Shiraz
Iranian News Search Engine, Kodoom.com: Last month, Leipzig String Quartet from Germany performed at Hamam Vakil, the historic bathhouse monument in Shiraz.
Founded in 1988, the Leipzig String Quartet is now widely acclaimed as one of the most exciting string quartets on the international chamber music scene: The "Neue Züricher Zeitung" has described the ensemble as "one of the towering and most versatile quartets of our time" and in 2002 "The New York Times" wrote "if there is a Leipzig sound, this is it!" Three of its members were first chairs in the famous Gewandhaus Orchestra of Leipzig.
In June 2015, the groups concert at London’s Wigmore Hall was canceled after reports accusing Stefan Arzberger, the group's violinist, of going on a naked rampage in a hotel and attempting to murder a 64-year-old tourist from North Carolina. In his defense, Arzberger, a married man, blames the incident on a date-rape drug administered by a transsexual prostitute he had taken to his room.
