In Pictures: Nobody stays home! Iranians celebrate 13 bedar in Nature
Independent aggregator of Iran-related News/Events, Kodoom.com: Iranian celebrate their new year on the first day of spring and end the holiday festivities on the 13th day (called 13-bedar or sizdeh bedar or sizdah bedar) by celebrating nature with friends and family. It is considered a bad omen to stay home and sedentary on the 13th day of new year. Millions venture into nature with their Samovars (to make Persian tea), kabob grills, soccer and volleyball gear, backgammon, chessboard and playing cards. Many make a wish by tying a knot on their sprouted wheat germs before returning it back to nature. Everyone's back to work the next day after connecting with family and nature on Sizdah bedar.
The pictures here are from this year's celebration of Nature Day on sizdah bedar in Tehran. A global list of 13-bedar in other cities can be also found on Kodoom.com's event pages (link):
Outside Iran, women do not have to wear Hijab (head scarf) and alcoholic beverages are used by some. Kabobs, Persian tea and Ash Reshteh (noodle, bean soup), however, are favorite food staples of Sizdah bedar inside and outside Iran.
