Iran displays exiled Queen's rare collection of works by Warhol, Picasso, Mattise
Independent Aggregator of Iran-related News/Events, Kodoom.com: For the first time since Iran's Islamic Revolution of 1979 that overthrew former King (Shah) Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, works from one of the world's most prestigious collections of modern art, assembled under the painstaking patronage of exiled Queen Farah Pahlavi are on display in Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art.
The $3 Billion 1,700-piece collection, reputed to be the greatest lineup of modern masterpieces outside of Europe and the United States, includes major works by Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro, Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko and Francis Bacon, Matisse, Degas, Renoir, Henry Moore, Alberto Giacometti.
In the Exhibit, works by prominent Iranian artists such as Monir Farmanfarmaian, Bahman Mohases, Sohrab Sepehri, Parviz Tanavoli, Farideh Lashaei, Marco Gregorian, and others will also be on display until June 15, 2017 (Link to website).
UPDATE on June 17, 2017: Iranian authorities cancel planned loaning of the exhibit to Germany. Some sources mention possibility of Queen Farah's legal claim on ownership of the collection as the reason for cancellation of exhibit in Europe (News Link).
