Iran's Music Festival Disrupted When Chinese Female Musician Loses Head Scarf
Independent Aggregator of Iran-related News/Events, Kodoom.com: Earlier this week, a female Chinese musician performing in Iran's Fajr International Music Festival in Tehran was suddenly approached by security officials and covered with a black cloth because her scarf had slipped off her head.
Iran is one of the few Islamic countries that mandates Hijab (head and body cover) for women in public spaces. Iran's neighbors and allies such as Turkey, Iraq, Lebanon and Syria do not mandate Hijab for women.
Last month in another fiasco for Iranian sports authorities, the coach of Thailand’s female kabaddi team disguised himself as a woman to watch his players compete in Asian Women's Championships of kabaddi in Gorgan in northern Iran.
Despite pledges by reform-minded President Rohani to lift the ban, under pressure by conservative clerics, Iranian sports authorities still ban women from attending men sports and men from watching female athletes.
