Mike Tyson testing Mecca pilgrimage as life changing experience
Mike Tyson, the once undisputed boxing heavyweight champion of the world, converted to Islam while in prison in the 90's. But he continued to be troubled by alcohol and drug abuse, violence and sexual promiscuity after his release from prison. He also filed for bankruptcy in 2003 after losing his estimated wealth of $400 Million to frivolous purchases, legal costs, and financial mismanagement.
His recent pilgrimage trip to Muslim holy city of Mecca, however, could be a spiritual journey and a life changing experience for him. The Canadian Muslim leader who accompanied Tyson to Mecca, claims that Tyson, a man known for violent tendencies, masculinity and arrogance, was so humbled upon entry into Prophet Mohammad's mosque in Medina that he was brought to tears and could not contain himself for an hour. Tyson visited other Islamic holy sites and cities in Saudi Arabia prior to returning to America.
