Niosha Plans to Take The Story of Nowruz to the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco

Recently we had a chance to chat with Niosha Nafei, the founder of the Niosha Dance Academy in Northern California. Niosha began her teaching career in Iran and since 1992 has been providing instruction in traditional and contemporary dances from the Iranian and Persian culture to aspiring performers in the San Francisco Bay area. Her dance troupe has performed at many functions in the region, notably the Golden State Warriors (NBA basketball team) half-time performance, Nowruz celebrations, pop concerts with Andy & Leila Forouhar, the Art & Wine Festival and many other community-based programs.
In 2016 Niosha celebrated her 25th anniversary of the academy. Niosha describes it as a "bittersweet moment" when she began reflecting on what her path might be in the future when finished teaching: "This inspired me to begin working on a longer term legacy as it relates to the Persian culture." This was the genesis for the NICA foundation - Niosha International Conservatory of Arts. To Niosha, this foundation would be a lasting and living testament to the beauty of Persian arts, culture and literature. "The Story of Nowruz" is NICA's first production which will depict the season of Spring and it's traditions of inspiration, rebirth, renewal, and hope through new dances and music in a completely new and original stage production.
Niosha will be "Unveiling the Story of Nowruz" with a Dinner Dance and Auction Gala on April 28 in the Northern California region (Event, tickets and sponsorship link). Proceeds will support the 2020 premiere of Nowruz at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco.
Niosha's motto is befitting. "Unity among all through art. Art is Borderless." She hopes Iranian Americans would join her on April 28 and support this important work of love.
