Persian poetry book, the most valuable asset lost with Titanic
It is believed that a priceless translation of Ruba'iyat of Omar Khayyam (famed Persian mathematician, astronomer and philosopher of 12th Century) by English writer, Edward Marlborough Fitzgerald, was present aboard Titanic. Apparently the copy had a cover with a Persian peacock design made from gold and studded with over 1000 rubies and emeralds. It was purchased at an auction in 1912 in London for 405 quid, and was being taken to its new home in New York when the ship sank.
Fitzgerald had spent 25 years of his life on the translation and the book binder had spent sizable time and money on the copy. Many believe this was the most valuable asset on Titanic.
Kioumars Pourahmad, an Iranian film writer, made a documentary on the loss of the valuable translation by Fitzgerald in the tragedy of titanic. The 'Lost Fact' is the story of the book which was on the way to be delivered for further issues to be published in the U.S. but it never made it to its destination.
