The Seven Trials of Rostam: A Unique Book and a Great Holiday Gift
Cultural News Editorial, Kodoom.com
It is not often that major French and American publications both recommend a book inspired by the 10th-century Persian epic Shahnameh (‘The Book of Kings’). Radio France now calls The Seven Trials of Rostam, (a pop-up book) "the most incredible of all beautiful comic books," and New York Times calls it "Vibrant." The French daily L'Humanité calls the book "a beautiful setting that preserves the culture .. at a time of the bloody repression in Iran."
Riding on the success of his award-winning pop up book, Zahhak the Legend of the Serpent Kings, Hamid Rahmanian, a 2014 Guggenheim fellowship-winning visual artist, has created a brand new pop up book, The Seven Trials of Rostam. The book is in English with Persian script, and contains 12 intricate (engineered pop-up paper) mechanics, and enclosed in a beautiful slipcase. And for this holiday, it's offered at $10 OFF (and free shipping) on Kingorama's website.
Story: When the mythical Persian king of Iran, King Kay Kavous, foolishly invades the lands of Mazandaran, a beautiful and enchanted kingdom guarded by powerful demons, the king soon finds himself and his army defeated and imprisoned by the terrifying White Demon. In all of Iran, only one young man is fit for the task of rescuing the king. Rostam, along with is devoted horse Rakhsh, sets off on a long and perilous journey – seven heroic trials – battling wild animals, demons, witches and more, all in an effort to save the king and Iran. Through these adventures, Rostam would come to be known as the greatest hero the world has ever known.
