What Makes us Human? Amazing Film Opens with Persian Music
Culture and Society Blog, Kodoom.com Editorial
What is it that makes us human? Is it that we love, that we fight? That we laugh? Cry? Our curiosity? Filmmaker and artist Yann Arthus-Bertrand spent three years collecting real-life "human" stories from 2,000 women and men in 60 countries and combined them with breathtaking images of the planet in HUMAN. And interestingly he opens volume 1 with a Persian song by Salar Aghili (see below)!
Working with a dedicated team of translators, journalists and cameramen, Yann captures deeply personal and emotional accounts of topics that unite us all; struggles with poverty, war, homophobia, and the future of our planet mixed with moments of love and happiness. Here is how Variety describes the footage used in the epic film as dazzling aerial imagery: "Marvelous images and heartfelt human testimonies pall over the course of Yann Arthus-Bertrand's arduous three-hour doc."
Volume 1 that opens with Persian music and vocals by Salar Aghili (minute 1:50) deals with the themes of love, women, work and poverty.
One of the most viral video clips of the series about meaning of life is an interview with José Mujica, former freedom fighter and political prisoner-turned-President of Uruguay described as "the world's humblest head of state" who declined to live in the presidential palace and instead lives on a small farm with his wife. They cultivate and sell chrysanthemums for living and he donates 90 percent of his monthly salary to charities that benefit poor people and small entrepreneurs (See related news in Persian HERE). In 2010, the value of Mujica's old Volkswagen Beetle was $1,800 and represented the entirety of the mandatory annual personal wealth declaration filed by Mujica for that year!
In the video clip Mujica shares; "Either you’re happy with very little, free of all that (extra) luggage, because you have happiness inside, or you don’t get anywhere!"
Volumes 2 and 3 of HUMAN deal with the themes of love, women, work and poverty:
