In Pictures: Tunisia's Popular President Drives His Iranian-made Vehicle to Work
Independent Aggregator of Iran-related News/Events, Kodoom.com: Kais Saied, the professor of constitutional law who won last week's Tunisian Presidential election with a stunning 72% of the votes as an Independent, is shown driving his inexpensive Peugeot 206 vehicle to work, reported to be made in Iran.
Peugeot 206 was the best-selling Peugeot model of all time with more than 10 million cars sold. Iran (through Iran Khodro), Argentina and Brazil were the last countries that produced the model.
In his own no-frills life, Saied appears to embody the anti-corruption message he seeks to spread: he lives in a middle-class neighborhood in Tunis and his office is housed in a run-down apartment in the heart of the capital and he drives an Iranian-made Peugeot 206 with bumps and dents apparently caused by accidents!
President Saeid's constitutional plan to combat moral and financial corruption was widely supported by young Tunisians and both Islamists and leftists. He is a social conservative committed to decentralizing the Tunisian political system. He is described as "robotic" due to his stern and stoic personality.
