Will Any Iranian Americans Attend The 2019 Summer Camp for Billionaires?
Economy and Entertainment Blog, Kodoom.com Editorial:
According to Wall Street Journal Every July, around 300 captains of industry—from Elon Musk to Warren Buffett—descend on Sun Valley, Idaho, to attend the investment firm Allen & Co.’s super exclusive conference sometimes also called The Summer Camp for Billionaires! For a week, Fortune 500 CEOs and Silicon Valley seers hobnob behind closed doors, where casual chats often turn into the year’s biggest deals. And in the past, a few Iranian Americans have been on the exclusive invitee list, such as Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi and Omid Kordestani, Twitter’s executive chairman and Google’s former chief business officer, who divorced philanthropist Bita Daryabari (founder of Pars Equality Center) for his young lover Gisel Hiscock.
In the past, the so-called "summer camp for billionaires" has laid the foundation for mega-deals like the $4.4 billion dollar Verizon's acquisition of AOL or later Yahoo, Jeff Bezos’ purchase of The Washington Post, and Disney’s merger with ABC, which had its roots at the investment bank's 1995 retreat.
Other past invitees included often stern-looking business moguls, many with rocky personal lives but powerful professional careers and positions: Miramax co-founder Harvey Weinstein (now charged with sexual abuse and rape), Former PBS host Charlie Rose (now disgraced with sexual abuse allegations), a main shareholder of CBS Shari Redstone (accused of cover up for Charlie Rose), former CBS CEO Leslie Moonves (accused of sexual harassment of women), CEO of The Kraft Group and owner of the Patriots football team Robert Kraft (charged with solicitation of human trafficked prostitutes), co-founder of "Jimmy Choo" Tamara Mellon (history of alcoholism and drug abuse) and her new fiance' former President of Disney Michael Ovitz (engaged to Tamara Mellon despite still being legally married to his wife Judy!), Hollywood producer Brian Grazer (Three time divorcee), Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos (whose recent divorce from ex-wife, blamed partly on Trump and Saudi Arabia, cost him $37 billion), chairman of News Corp and Fox network Rupert Murdoch (Married four times and accused of covering up sexual abuses at Fox), Ivanka Trump and husband Jared Kushner, Co-founder of twitter Jack Dorsey with friend Israeli American venture capitalist Vivi Nevo, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg (who owns 10 properties in the world), Apple CEO Tim Cook (single and openly gay, living in a modest apartment and planning to give away all of his money to charity when he dies) and former co-founder of PayPal Max Levchin.
This year's conference will start on July 9 and we are not sure if any Iranian Americans will attend the conference.
Here are some interesting facts about the conference:
To get to the event, many execs take private jets, and charter company XOJET told Business Insider that it expected 350 to 465 jets this year.
100 LOCAL BABYSITTERS: Number of babysitters hired to watch attendees’ children, at rates that can reach $1,000 or more for the week.
529 DOLLARS PER NIGHT: Average nightly rate for a terrace suite at the Sun Valley Lodge, where attendees stay.
