Erdogan's Turkey Snubs Ayatollahs: Iranian Leaders Must Learn Their Lessons!
Following the defeat of Iran-backed Syrian forces and decimation of Hezbollah forces in Lebanon, Turkey seems to be expanding their territorial and political clout in the region in coordination with the US, Russia, Israel and Arab countries.
Turkish leaders have started harsh criticisms of Iranian leaders. During his speech at Marmara University, Erdogan shared his frustration with "that religious leader" who allowed 250,000 Syrians to die while pretending to fight with Israel. It appears that Erdogan was referring to Iran\s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, who in recent weeks have been critical of Turkey's role in Syria.
Separately, Turkey's Foreign Minister has urged Iranian leaders to "learn their lessons" from events in Syria because despite Iran's support, Assad failed to serve his people's needs and start national reconciliation.
Turkish government's official TV channel (TRT) has started a Persian broadcast service apparently intended to influence Iranian citizens.
Anchors at France 24 now believe given Iran's isolation and setbacks in Syria and Lebanon, Erdogan believes he has more say in the Arab world than Iran's Supreme Leader.
In Tehran, Ahmad Khatami, the Imam of Friday prayer and a close ally of Iran's Supreme Leader, has promised that "Erdogan will receive the proper punch for his treason."
Iranian economic analysts like Ata Bahrami of Tahririeh channel openly express their disappointment (video in Persian) with such government policies that prompts Iranian tourists and expats to invest $10 billion a year in Turkish economy benefiting "A government that insults our leader and attacks our interests bases in Iraq and Syria."
Turkey seems to have maintained ties with the US, Russia, Ukraine, Israel and Arab countries while Iran has cornered itself both domestically, in clashes with its own people protesting the mandatory head scarf for women, and internationally, by hostilities towards Israel, US, Ukraine and Saudi Arabia.
Even President-elect Trump has shared his views about Turkey as the main winner of Syria's multi-front proxy wars, at least for the time being!
