Iran's ancient Lake Urumia to dry up in seven years
The largest interior salt water lake in Iran, Lake Urumia - also known as Oroomieh or formerly Rezaieh- will dry up in seven years according to Yunus Fateh, mayor of Oskoo, a town by the lake. Iran's Head of Environmental Protection Agency has admitted that poor environmental policies, climate changes and neglect of Iranian natural resources during Ahmadinejad government have resulted in ecological catastrophes such as drying up of the ancient Lake Urumia and Esfahan's famed river Zayandeh Rood.
